A quarter peal of Grandsire Triples

Balanced above their frame, the bells swing down
then up again as the first pulls strike
their rich bronze tones across the fields,
chasing the morning sun through fleeing mists,
over roofs and in at newly opened
windows, raising spirits
to bring the harvest in.

The treble's lead joins the robin's joyful song
over the town, in the woods, as the inside bells dance
each part, weaving one body.

The tenor hovers over the waves
of sound, adding to each ancient prayer
its deep 'Amen'.
